Today, the Provincial Court of Manitoba released the official Inquest Report into the death of Celine Samuel. Celine, a mother, sister, and daughter, died tragically on February 1, 2020, while in RCMP custody.
As a family, we are still processing the findings and recommendations contained in the report. This is a difficult and emotional time for us, as the report brings back painful memories while also raising important questions about the circumstances surrounding Celine’s passing.
We wish to express our gratitude to all those who have stood with us throughout this long process, including community members, friends, and advocates who have carried Celine’s name and story forward. We thank Judge Doreen Redhead for the great care she took in drafting this report, Inquest Counsel Theresa Cannon, and all Parties to the Inquest for their respectful participation.
At this time, we are asking the public and the media to please respect our need for privacy as we take time to review the report in full and consider its impact. Our focus remains on honoring Celine’s memory and ensuring that her life continues to inspire change for the better.
